I love my Roomba

I have had my first Roomba for 5 years. After 3 years, I needed a new battery. The customer service sent me something to reprogram the Roomba but that didn't help much so I got a new battery. It has been working fine ever since. Then I got a Scooba about 3 years ago and it is having problems with the battery now. I think the battery life is the problem. I love the way both clean and the fact that I can do something else while they clean my floors. Buyers should be aware that you do have to move everything the Roomba can't go under and around to get the most floor clean and pick up all cords to keep the Roomba from getting tangled in them. That all seems easy to me for the clean floor I get.

I have the 5xx model and it works like a charm (batteries does not last long enough) I am a single dad and this thing has helped me out allot I have dust allergies, so I have to clean the carpet at least once a week but to give you an idea of how much I use it I lost track of where I put the vacuum cleaner.
Great concept, poorly designed products - low reliability

We have had four roombas and 1 scooba. At first we loved them! They clean great. We had a six month honeymoon. We have also purchased 3 new batteries, 2 new chargers, and a bag full of misc parts - each time convinced it was our 110V electric spikes or whatever that ruined the charging systems or eproms, or motors... Finally with every unit on a $200 uninteruptable power supply we have realized they are just designed poorly, no robustness. Not actually designed for dirty real world environment. Not designed with a resiliant power supply and charging system. We have had good luck and responsiveness with customer service, but we have had to keep going back again and again and again. So now I have a house full of dead out-of-warranty roombas, one with no power, one with a frozen bearing in the right wheel motor, one that the brush unit that does not turn, and one that is acts like it's eprom is bad and can't seem to find a cleaning pattern. I have spent $1500 on this adventure - and I am done. We are back on the in-house vacuum. These product designs did not hold up in a relatively clean, pet free, carpet only house. They are poorly designed. It is not the quality of the componants - these designs are not experiencing significant generational design quality improvements. They are adding gimmicks, cool features, but not improving long term performance. They work great when they work, but they don't last more than six months to a year. IRobot products are for hobbyists and the military, not households.
